Polyester polymer chips such as PET are hygroscopic, meaning that they absorb moisture from their surrounding atmosphere. In atmospheric conditions the resin can contain as much as 0.6% water by weight. This causes issues during the injection molding and extrusion processes.

This continuous dryer is used to remove the moisture from the chips and keep its strength and aesthetic qualities.
